Valentine Carnival

On Wednesday, February 10th, the kids from Swanston After School put on a Valentine Carnival for the neighborhood.  The event was spearheaded by Marshanda Palmore, a seventeen year old high school student and volunteer at the center.  She came up with the idea, set up the details, solicited donations, recruited volunteers, decorated, and promoted the event.

The carnival consisted of 11 games, as well as a dance off half way through the event.  Hot dogs and snacks were also sold to raise money for the after school program.

A total of 40 kids bought wristbands, for $1 to participate in the games.  Seven middle school and high school age volunteers helped to man the booths.  The event was a success, and it was great seeing the kids take pride in their hard work.
