Computer Literacy
Instructor: Anika Simmons
Adults 55+ are invited to unlock the mysteries of the computer at Swanston Community Center. Lessons include but are not limited to: basic keyboard and mouse skills, basic word processing, basic internet skills, and file management. Laptops are welcome!
Internet for Beginners
Week 1: Internet Basics - This introductory course will guide you through the basics with up-to-date information on the latest online tools and technologies.
Week 2: Email 101 - This introductory class will teach you the basics about email and understanding how email works, where you get email service from, and how you interact properly and safely online.
Week 3: Internet Safety - This Internet Safety course will provide you with the strategies and mindset needed to protect yourself, your computer and your privacy when you are on the internet.
Digital Lifestyle Classes
Week 1: iTunes - This class features the iTunes store, where you can purchase music, movies, T.V. shows and more. Laptops welcome!
Week 2: Digital Camera to Computer - Let us help you learn how to get your beautiful pictures off your camera and onto your computer. Learn how to save, and organize your picture files. Laptops welcome!
Week 3: Get to Know Craigslist & eBay - Learn how to safely use these two websites. Craigslist is a centralized online network of classifieds and eBay is a customer to customer auction service. Laptops are welcome!
Social Media Classes
Week 1: Facebook Basics - This class was created to get you up to speed on how to maintain a Facebook page of your own, including understanding the complex privacy policies and settings. Laptops are welcome!
Week 2: Twitter Basics - More and more this micro-blogging network is becoming a very popular way of finding out what's going on with people and things that matter to you most. With this engaging class, you can learn all the various ways you can use Twitter to enhance your life.
Week 3: Blog Basics - Blogs have become a popular way for everyday people to share experiences, passions, and more with the world. Learn all about blogs and how to start your own with this class.
Internet Safety for Kids
Practicing safety is a must with anyone who goes online, but with kids it is especially important. This class will discuss what your kids may encounter online and show you how to keep them safe and talk to them about being safe and responsible.
Note: you may NOT substitue dates in sessions.
