Ground Breaking - New Nature Trail at Mission North ParkNew Nature Trail at Mission North Park –

Construction to cause areas of park to be closed.

The construction of the Chicken Ranch Slough Nature Trail at Mission North Park is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 30.  During construction, a substantial portion of the park will be closed to the public and will be fenced off as a construction zone.  In particular, the pedestrian entrance to the park from Foster Way will be closed during most of the construction. The Foster Way access point is a popular short cut for students of Churchill Middle School, so it will be important for them to use an alternate route until construction is complete. The restroom building and playgrounds will remain open during construction.

If the weather cooperates, then we anticipate construction to be completed by January 15.  We appreciate your patience during this highly anticipated park improvement.  The paved concrete trail will provide approximately 1/3 mile for walking, and will include some interpretive/educational signs.  California State Parks sees the value and importance of this nature trail, and we thank them for their matching grant that will pay for half of this project.

The Eastern Oak Park Expansion Project is Well Underway

During the month of August the aged YMCA facilities (three buildings and a swimming pool) were removed from Eastern Oak Park.  The grounds have since been cleared in preparation for the upcoming rainy season (let’s hope!).  The park expansion plans are currently under review by the County of Sacramento.  Funds have been allocated in the District’s Fiscal Year 2015-16 budget to begin construction of new park amenities, which is scheduled to begin early next summer.  Continue to check this website for updates, or call the District Office at 488-2810.  Eastern Oak Park is located at 3127 Eastern Ave.
